Crescent Academy International's Qurʾānic Arabic Program
Areas of Study Within Qurʾānic Arabic, there are seven major areas of study: 1. Reading - القراءة (ability to read the Qurʾān in its ʿuthmāniyy script) 2. Elocution - التجويد (ability to understand and apply the rules governing the proper pronunciation of the Qurʾān) 3. Memorization, Revision, and Review - الحفظ والتمكين والمراجعة (ability to memorize new Qurʾān, revise recently memorized Qurʾān, and maintain what has been memorized in the past by following a consistent, organized schedule of review) 4. Exegesis - التفسير (ability to deeply understand the Qurʾān from what has been memorized with a focus on depth and not breadth) 5. Vocabulary - المفردات (ability to understand basic Arabic vocabulary along with Qurʾānic vocabulary from sūrahs previously memorized) 6. Linguistics - اللغة (ability to notice the patterns of Qurʾānic Arabic grammar, understand their significance, and apply them) 7. Handwriting - الخط (ability to write in naskh, the calligraphic script of the muṣḥaf used at Crescent Academy International)
All of the above relate directly to the Qurʾān or skills building up to ones relating directly to the Qurʾān. Please note that Conversational Arabic (المحادثة), Colloquial Arabic (العامية), and Modern Standard Arabic (اللغة العربية المعاصرة) are not major areas of focus of the Qurʾānic Arabic curriculum, although they may be indirect outcomes.
