History
Three decades of quality, Islamic-focused education
Crescent Academy International was founded in 1991 by the Michigan Education Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the educational and spiritual needs of Muslim children in America.
Energized by the vision of a small group of Muslim leaders, plans began in 1989 to establish Crescent Academy as an independent Islamic school open to students of all cultures and backgrounds. After several years of planning and development, the school opened in September 1991 and shortly thereafter moved into a new $2.4 million facility on a picturesque 10-acre site in the quiet suburban setting of Canton, Michigan.
Over the years, Crescent Academy has been blessed with steady growth and progress. Both locally and nationally, Crescent Academy has developed a reputation as one of the premier Islamic schools in North America.
With support from a broad community of leaders, parents, alumni and other friends, the school in 2007 completed a $9 million expansion project that provided an additional 68,000 square feet of learning space for students and staff. Additional property has since been acquired for future expansion.
Currently enrolling students from age 18 months to eighth grade, the school continues to follow the vision of its founders to develop each student as a total person – spiritually, morally, intellectually, physically, interpersonally, culturally and socially. With over 30 years of service, Crescent Academy looks forward to many more years of continued development and success.
